The Alexia Foundation
Alexia Tsairis, an honor photojournalism student at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University, was a victim of the 1988 terrorist bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland. The Alexia Foundation promotes the power of photojournalism to give voice to social injustice, to respect history lest we forget it and to understand cultural difference as our strength — not our weakness. Through grants and scholarships, The Alexia Foundation supports photographers as agents for change.
This project is a poster design and concept to promote the judging and speakers for the Alexia Foundation’s 2012 Photography Competition. I chose to graphically illustrate a paper dove, which parallels to a paper airplane as a reminder of the terrorist attack, representing peace, cultural difference, and cultural acceptance through the art of origami.
